Press Releases - County Council

New national immigration reform bill is the focus of “En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery”, tomorrow at 2 p.m. on Radio America

For Immediate Release: Thursday, February 18, 2021

Guests will discuss the current immigration system and answer questions about how this new legislation could provide a path to citizenship for more than 11 million people in the U.S.

ROCKVILLE, Md., Feb. 18, 2021—Immigration attorneys Liana Montecinos and Silverio Coy will be the featured guests on this week’s En Sintonía con El Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (In Tune with the Montgomery County Council), airing on Friday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. on Radio America (WILC 900AM).

Ms. Montecinos is the managing attorney at Montecinos Immigration Law LLC in Silver Spring, Md., and Mr. Coy is the senior managing attorney at the Law Firm of Silverio Coy, P.C. in Washington, D.C. The guests will discuss the potential changes in immigration policies as described in the “U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021,” which was proposed by President Biden and was introduced in Congress today. Based on a 2018 report from a Migration Policy Institute (MPI) analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data, Montgomery County has about 73,000 undocumented individuals. Per a January 2021 fact sheet put out by President Biden’s administration, the first point of this legislation is to create an earned, eight-year roadmap to citizenship.

The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station. Lilian Mass is the show’s host.

Each week, the show features guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
