ROCKVILLE, Md., March 30, 2021—On April 6, 7 and 8, the Montgomery County Council will hold public hearings on Montgomery County’s Fiscal Year 2022 Operating Budget. On April 6 the budget public hearings will be held at 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. On April 7 and 8, the public hearings will be held at 7 p.m. All of the public hearings will be conducted through Zoom and residents will provide their testimony live by video or telephone.
Residents can sign up to testify by clicking the “sign up” button for public hearings on the Council’s calendar. Individuals will receive a confirmation email with the appropriate video and dial-call in information to participate in the remote meetings. If you need help signing up, please call 240-777-7803. The registration deadline for daytime hearings is 5 p.m. on the day before the hearing, and the deadline for evening hearings is 10 a.m. on the day of the hearing.
The Council also provides residents with the option to send either written or prerecorded audio or video testimony for Councilmembers to consider throughout their budget deliberations. While this testimony will not be aired during the Council’s public hearing, all of the comments provided will be reviewed by Councilmembers and will be available to the public on the Council’s web page. Community members can find the form to upload their comments at https://tinyurl.com/4hdztfmb. The deadline to submit testimony is midnight two business days before Council action.

The Fiscal Year 2022 Recommended Operating Budget totals $6 billion. County Executive Marc Elrich presented his recommended operating budget to the Council on March 15, 2021. During the next two months, the Council will analyze these recommendations and is scheduled to adopt the FY22 County budget in late May. The budget will take effect on July 1.
Residents can view the public hearings on County Cable Montgomery on Channels 996 or 6 on Xfinity, Channels 1056 or 6 on RCN and Channel 30 on Verizon. The public hearings also will be available via streaming on the Council’s Facebook (MontgomeryCountyMdCouncil) or YouTube (MoCoCouncilMD) pages or the Council website at https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/COUNCIL/OnDemand/index.html .
