MCDOT Prepares for Spring/Summer Cleaning of County Garages

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, April 13, 2021

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is scheduled to begin its semi-annual interior washdown to degrease and clean the steel beams of all 21 County-owned parking garages in Silver SpringBethesda and Wheaton.

The washings will occur on nights and weekends this spring. The cleanings are scheduled to begin in the Silver Spring garages on April 14 and end in the Wheaton garages on June 6. See the full schedule.

Every year, MCDOT schedules the spring and fall washdowns to ensure the cleanliness of garages and to protect and prevent deterioration of the structures from exposure to salt, sand, oils, gas, dirt, pollen, and leaves.

Some garages will experience a full or partial closure that may include the entrance/exit areas and ramps, depending upon the garage traffic and unforeseen circumstances. MCDOT contractors will do their best to complete their work around the garage traffic and parked vehicles and to provide appropriate signage to notify customers of anticipated access impacts.
