For Immediate Release: Tuesday, May 25, 2021
Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will offer free Capital Bikeshare rides to and from COVID vaccination sites through July 4. The free rides are available from a recent program announcement from the White House and a partnership with Lyft and Uber to offer access to transportation for individuals to get to a vaccination site.
Montgomery County has an extensive network of Capital Bikeshare stations. There are 90 docking stations located throughout the County. Overall, riders have access to 600+ stations and over 4500 pedal and pedal-assist (also known as e-bike) bikes throughout the Washington D.C Metropolitan area.
To access a free Capital Bikeshare ride, users should visit the Lyft website first and provide a few details to get an access code and then can access the ride through the Capital Bikeshare or Lyft apps.
Ride codes will cover up to $15 each for two rides and can be used for Capital Bikeshare, Lyft rideshare or e-scooter rides during standard pharmacy operating hours (6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.).
Additionally, all Ride On, Ride On extRa, and Flash buses remain free to all passengers. Fees were suspended during the health crisis.
MCDOT also provides free special Ride On shuttle bus service between the Montgomery College Germantown Campus mass vaccination site and the Shady Grove Metro Station. The shuttle service is marked “Vaccine Shuttle” and operates Monday through Friday every 30 minutes between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Bay H on the east side of the Shady Grove Metro Station. Pick-ups and drop-offs at the Germantown campus are in front of the Bioscience Education Center (see map). Saturday travel between the two sites is available on the Ride On Route 55.
