Press Releases - County Council

New federal-level immigration measures and Lyme disease prevention will be the focus of “En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery”, today at 2 p.m. on Radio America

For Immediate Release: Friday, June 4, 2021

ROCKVILLE, Md., June 4, 2021 — Immigration attorney Silverio Coy and pediatrician and epidemiologist Dr. Ligia Peralta will be the featured guests on this week’s En Sintonía con El Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (In Tune with the Montgomery County Council), airing today at 2 p.m. on Radio America (WILC 900AM).

In the first part of the show, Mr. Coy will explain some of the new immigration measures that were announced at the federal level. This includes the formal end to the former President Trump-era policy of returning asylum seekers to Mexico until their court dates in the United States, the establishment of new aid centers in Central America to help those hoping to migrate to the United States and President Biden’s tentative outline of possible actions to expand the legal immigration system.

Dr. Peralta will join for the second part of the show to discuss Lyme disease and how residents can prevent getting it as they enjoy the outdoors this summer. This disease is commonly spread through ticks and can have deadly consequences if not detected and treated early.

The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express their views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station. Lilian Mass is the show’s host.

Each week, the show features guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
