WASHINGTON, D.C.—On Thursday, July 22, Councilmember Will Jawando will welcome U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm at a home in Silver Spring, Maryland to discuss the cost savings and energy security benefits to adopting rooftop solar on homes. A press conference will follow to announce a countywide effort to reduce solar permitting delays.
The trip is part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Summer of Solar campaign, a national effort to highlight the successful deployment of solar energy in the U.S. and encourage 125 local governments to fast-track rooftop solar installations which will bring more jobs to their communities and increase the number of diverse solar homes in their neighborhoods.
Councilmember Jawando said, “Montgomery County has remained on the forefront of limiting our carbon emissions to do our part in fighting the climate crisis. From our work to expand solar to the Agricultural Reserve to adopting streamlined processes to speed the roll-out of solar in our community, we are well positioned to move into a cleaner future.”
