The fourth phase of COVID-19 rent relief in Montgomery County will also be discussed

ROCKVILLE, Md., August 4, 2022The featured guests on this week’s En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (In Tune with the Montgomery County Council) will include Dr. Ligia Peralta, pediatrician, researcher and epidemiologist; Dr. Maria L. Marquez, administrative medical director at Mary’s Center; and Patricia Santucci, supervisor at the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services. The show will air tomorrow at 2 p.m. on Radio America (WILC 900AM).

The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) and the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) continue to monitor the spread of monkeypox (MPX). Currently, Montgomery County has received a limited amount of MPX vaccines. Dr. Ligia Peralta will discuss what causes MPX, its symptoms and how to protect ourselves and our loved ones from this virus.

Moreover, as COVID-19 cases continue to rise, it is important to make informed decisions when it comes to the COVID-19 vaccine. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends COVID-19 vaccinations for everyone who is six months of age and older, and boosters for everyone who is five years of age or older, if eligible. Dr. Maria Marquez will discuss the importance of being up to date with the vaccinations. Furthermore, it is recommended that those who are pregnant or breastfeeding also receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Dr. Marquez will provide clinical guidance to determine the intervals for primary doses and boosters.

Lastly, the show will conclude with information for Montgomery County residents who are continuing to experience financial hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The County has opened the fourth phase of its COVID-19 rent relief program for new and previously incomplete applications. Patricia Santucci will discuss frequently asked questions such as how to apply, requirements and eligibility criteria.

The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express their views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station.

Each week, the show features host Marcela Rodriguez, Council program manager and public information officer, and guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
