Animal adoption in Montgomery County will also be discussed

ROCKVILLE, Md., Oct. 13, 2022The featured guests on this week’s En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (In Tune with the Montgomery County Council) will include Dr. Luis Aguirre, senior program specialist with the Latino Health Initiative; Ligia Gonzalez, animal care attendant at Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center and Juan Arango Millan, activist and president of the International Academy of Kindness in the Americas. The show will air Friday at 2 p.m. on Radio America (WILC 900 AM).

The Latino Health Initiatives invites Latino families to participate in the Asthma Management Program. The free workshops consist of seven virtual sessions where participants will learn about the environmental factors that can cause or worsen asthma symptoms and how to eliminate them or reduce their impact. Moreover, medical experts will develop a customized asthma management plan and teach them how to properly administer asthma-related medications. LHS’s Asthma Management Program seeks to reduce asthma related emergency room visits. The workshops will be hosted in Spanish and those interested in signing up are encouraged to send a text with the word asthma to the number 240-401-0487.

Moreover, the Montgomery County Office of Animal Services has welcomed cats and dogs from Florida shelters to provide relief in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. Currently, more than three hundred animals are available for adoption. The animals have been evaluated medically and behaviorally and are in search of loving homes. Ligia Gonzalez, who is an animal care attendant, will discuss the adoption process, requirements and the hours of operations of the shelter. Bilingual assistance is available for those interested in adopting an animal.

The show will conclude with the testimony of Juan Arango Millan, who has dedicated his life to helping Latino immigrants escape domestic violence in Maryland. Juan Millan, a native of Colombia, was able to get his mother out of her abusive relationship and turned this difficult experience into motivation to help women escape abuse and guide them to navigate the resources available for domestic violence victims.

The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express their views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station.

Each week, the show features host Marcela Rodriguez, Council program manager and public information officer, and guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
