Today, Montgomery County Council President Evan Glass announced the committee assignments for the 20th Council. Committee assignments are determined by the Council president every four years in collaboration with all Councilmembers.   

“I am proud that the committee assignments for the 20th Council will be among the most diverse and historic – with a majority of our committees being chaired by Black, Latino, women and LGBTQ+ Councilmembers," Council President Glass said.

“I want to thank all of my colleagues for engaging in a thoughtful and collaborative process to determine this committee structure. These assignments reflect the individual skills and knowledge that have been brought to the Council, and I am confident that my colleagues will serve these roles for the betterment of all County residents.

“To accommodate the increased size of the Council from nine to 11 members, two new committees have been created. The former Planning, Housing and Economic Development Committee has been split into two separate committees: the Economic Development Committee and the Planning, Housing and Parks Committee.  

“The start of the 20^th Council has created a unique opportunity to reorganize our committee structure. By splitting the Planning, Housing and Economic Development Committee into the Planning, Housing and Parks Committee and the Economic Development Committee, there will be more time for discussion, action and oversight on issues that are critical to the well-being of our residents and businesses.

“I am particularly excited by the newly formed Economic Development Committee, as I believe this will give us the opportunity to more fully discuss policies to make Montgomery County more economically competitive, in addition to addressing the racial wealth gap, pay equity and financial security.”

The existing committee structure continues for the Education and Culture, Government Operations and Fiscal Policy, Health and Human Services, Public Safety and Transportation and Environment Committees.
