Silver Spring Arts and Entertainment District Will Be Celebrating Valentine’s Day with Events, Opportunities and Fun

For Immediate Release: Friday, February 10, 2023

Whether you are looking for a romantic evening out a restaurant, a Gal-entine’s or Pal-entine’s get together, or a family outing, the Silver Spring Arts and Entertainment District could provide the right Valentine’s date for with events, opportunities and fun. Many do not require much advance planning to make it a special day.

Designated as an Arts and Entertainment District by the State of Maryland in 2001, the Silver Spring Arts and Entertainment District is a hub of performance venues, restaurants and nightlife, festivals, community celebrations and family friendly fun. An Arts and Entertainment District helps develop and promote community involvement, tourism and business revitalization through tax-related incentives that attract artists, arts organizations and other creative enterprises.

Here is a list of some fun preceding and on Valentine’s Day, which is officially Tuesday, Feb. 14, that will be available in Silver Spring:

  • Couples Skate at Veterans Plaza. The outdoor ice skating rink at Veterans Plaza is open seven days a week in the day and the nighttime. Hold hands with your child or sweetheart and enjoy the music and colored light canopy at night. Skating sessions are for one hour. To purchase tickets on-line, visit https://www.silverspringiceskating.com/. The rink has more than 400 pairs of skates available to rent, sized from toddler to adult.
  • A Game Day Valentine’s outing. How about a beer crawl between Denizen’s Brewing, Astro Lab or Silver Branch Brewing? It is an easy walk between all three breweries in the district.
  • Silver Spring Arts and Entertainment District has almost 200 restaurants. Choose from ethnic foods, to romantic eateries, to family friendly chains and pizza joints. Many have specials for the big football game on Sunday, Feb. 12, or Valentine’s menus or specials.
  • Made no plans at all?  Take a self guided public art walk around Silver Spring or chart your own path to more than 50 pieces of public art. Great spots include the Bio Wall plaza with comfortable seating and the romantic the glow from the bio wall and DNA sculpture. Visit Heidi Lipmann’s glass-painted wall Transorma/Transforma, which is absolutely stunning at night. There are also the lights of Craig Kraft’s Lightweb.
  • For comedy lovers, Joke Sistas is being presented by Improbably Comedy at the Silver Spring Black Box Theater on Saturday, Feb. 11.
  • The American Legion Post 41 is hosting six bands and an all-night happy hour beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11.
  • Prefer a traditional dinner and a movie date?  Check out the historic AFI Silver Theater and Cultural Center. The Majestic Theater is showing romantic movie favorite’s Titanic for the 25th anniversary, La Traviata, My Bloody Valentine (not romantic, you need to be a horror lover for this one) and daily screenings of the new movies and hits like Magic Mike’s Last Dance.
  • Other family or last-minute entertainment locations with daily offerings during Valentine’s weekend include puzzle rooms at The Big Escape Room Silver Spring, arcade and games at Dave and Busters Silver Spring or The Eleanor’s bowling lanes.
