For Immediate Release: Friday, February 14, 2025
The Montgomery County Sports Advisory Committee wants to celebrate their good work with the first-ever Unsung Sports Hero Award.
"Sports bring our communities together, and behind every great team or event, there are dedicated individuals who work tirelessly behind the scenes,” said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. “The Unsung Sports Hero Award honors those who give their time, energy, and passion to make local sports possible—whether they’re coaches, volunteers, referees, or organizers. I encourage everyone to take a moment to nominate someone who makes a difference in our sports community.”
Nominees can be individuals or groups involved in coaching, officiating, team management, field maintenance, player transportation, training, equipment donations or any other efforts that promote equitable sports participation in the community.
Nominations are being accepted now through Friday, Feb. 28. For more information and to make a nomination, visit the website.
"Youth and community sports cannot happen without individuals who work tirelessly behind the scenes, mostly for no pay and little recognition,” said Sports Advisory Committee Chair Tom Cove. “The new Unsung Sports Hero Award aims to give credit to these special people, without whom many kids could not play sports."
Winners will be honored at the Montgomery County Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Celebration on Sunday, May 4.
The Sports Advisory Committee studies sports participation and opportunities in the County and makes recommendations to the County Executive and the Montgomery County Council.
