Press Releases

For Immediate Release: Monday, February 2, 2026

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will host a community forum on data centers—facilities that house computer equipment used to store information and power digital services. Large “hyperscale” data centers require significant electricity and cooling to operate. While these facilities can provide economic benefits, they also raise environmental, social, and land-use considerations.

The County Executive is inviting input from residents, community organizations, businesses, and environmental advocates on proposed local legislation and policies. The forum will focus on the economic, environmental, and land-use impacts of data centers and explore best practices for responsible and sustainable development.
