The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has completed phase 1 of its bus shelter replacement work at Shady Grove East Metrorail Station in Rockville as part of its Bus Shelter Replacement Program and has started on phase 2.

The project is replacing existing bus shelters with modern, more comfortable shelters that provide better weather protection, improve durability and visibility and create a more comfortable experience for customers waiting for service.

Phase 2 of construction began on Monday, Feb. 16. A list of impacted stops for phase 2 can be found below.

  • Some bus bays at Shady Grove East will be temporarily closed in phases.

  • Temporary bus stops will be ADA-compliant but may not include shelters or benches while work is underway.
  • Bus bay changes are scheduled to occur early Monday mornings (around 3 a.m.) to reduce impacts during the morning commute.
