Update: Warrant Obtained for Attempt Kidnapping Suspect

Detectives from the Family Crimes Division have obtained a warrant for a suspect in the attempt kidnapping that occurred on Friday, September 28 in Silver Spring.

Today at 3:00 p.m., members of the Metropolitan Police Department notified Montgomery County detectives that a subject matching the description of the attempt kidnapping suspect was being treated at a medical facility in the District of Columbia.  He is being identified as Rodney Murrell, 31 years old, of the 3600 block of Martin Luther King Avenue SE, in Washington D.C.  After detectives were notified of the location of Murrell, they responded and interviewed him about the incident.  After the interview, detectives obtained a warrant charging Murrell with attempted kidnapping and second degree assault.  The extradition process will be initiated when he is cleared medically.

On Friday, September 28 at approximately 1:30 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to the McDonald's located at 8407 Colesville Road in Silver Spring for the report of an attempt kidnapping. The investigation revealed that the 13-year-old male victim was waiting at the counter when the suspect entered the restaurant, grabbed the victim from behind, and attempted to drag him outside. During the struggle, the suspect identified himself as the police and told the victim he was under arrest. A security guard at the McDonald's intervened, and the suspect released the victim. The suspect was last seen walking towards the Metro station.
