Update: Police Investigate White Oak Fatal Pedestrian Collision

Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit are continuing to investigate a fatal collision that occurred last night in White Oak.

On Thursday, February 7, at approximately 10:30 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to Route 29 and Oak Leaf Drive for a pedestrian struck.  Arriving officers found a male subject, deceased in the southbound lanes of Route 29.  The 43-year-old female driver of the striking vehicle, a gray 2008 Nissan Altima, remained on the scene and cooperated with officers.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the Nissan was southbound on Route 29, approaching the Oak Leaf Drive intersection.  Witnesses stated that the male pedestrian started to cross the southbound lanes from the center median, tripped while crossing the southbound lanes, and was struck by the Nissan.  He succumbed to his injuries on the scene.

At this time, the pedestrian is being identified as Charles Oppong Aboagye, age 44, from the 100 block of Finale Terrace in Silver Spring.  The driver of the striking vehicle has been identified as Kym Nwosu, age 43, from the 10200 block of Nightmist Court in Columbia.

The circumstances surrounding this collision remain under investigation.  Investigators are asking anyone who has information about this collision to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.  Callers may remain anonymous.
