Update: Suspect Charged in Silver Spring Homicide

Detectives from the Major Crimes Division- Homicide and Sex Section have charged Fidel Washington, age 25, of the 9700 block of Mt. Pisgah Lane in Silver Spring, with first-degree murder for the homicide of his mother.

At approximately 8:09 a.m. on June 28, officers responded to the victim's apartment in the 9700 block of Mt. Pisgah Road in Silver Spring for a check-the-welfare call.  A concerned co-worker called police after the victim, Esperanza Valle, age 50, had not shown up to work recently.  Officers knocked on the door but did not receive a response.  With the assistance of  Property Management, officers entered the apartment.  In the apartment, officers located the victim deceased with multiple stab wounds to her body.  Officers located her son, Washington, in the apartment and he was taken into custody.  Washington and the victim both lived in the apartment.

During questioning, Washington confessed to the homicide and stated that he and his mother had an argument about him not having a job.  He was transported to the Central Processing Unit and charged with first-degree murder.

Bond review for Washington will be held today at 1:00 p.m. in Rockville District Court.
