Suspect Now Charged With Two Carjackings

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, August 20, 2013

On Monday, August 5, 4th District officers arrested a suspect responsible for a carjacking that had occurred earlier that day in the 2nd District.  Jamall H. Thorton, age 18, of the 3300 block of Hewitt Avenue in Silver Spring, was arrested and charged with carjacking and other associated charges.  The second suspect involved in the carjacking was not located.

As part of the carjacking investigation, the stolen vehicle was processed for evidence by Montgomery County Police-Forensic Services Personnel.  Recovered fingerprints from the vehicle were entered into a police database.  Detectives were notified that the fingerprints were a match to two individuals: Jamall Thorton (already arrested for the crime) and Leroy Neil Brown, age 17.  Investigators then began to follow-up on the fingerprint information.

On August 12, Silver Spring officers responded to a carjacking in Silver Spring.  An officer who was searching the area for the vehicle located it in the vicinity of Second Avenue and Stratton Road in Silver Spring.  The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect fled on foot.  A K9 officer and his K9 located the suspect, and he was taken into custody without incident.  That suspect was identified as Leroy Neil Brown, age 17, of the 3000 block of Whispering Pines Drive in Aspen Hill.  He was transported to the Central Processing Unit and was charged as an adult with carjacking and other associated charges.

Brown is now charged as an adult with the August 5 and August 12 carjacking.  He remains in the custody of corrections.

*Note: The Public Information Office does not release photographs of juveniles and therefore a photograph of Brown will not be released.*
