Detectives Investigate Bank Robbery - One Suspect Believed To Have Committed Two Bank Robberies

For Immediate Release: Friday, August 23, 2013

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Robbery Section are investigating a bank robbery that occurred today at the TD Bank in Gaithersburg.  Detectives are releasing surveillance photos of the two suspects and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects.  Investigators believe that one of the suspects involved in the bank robbery today committed the August 16 bank robbery of the PNC Bank in Bethesda.

Today at approximately 2:30 p.m., 6th District officers responded to the TD Bank located at 15830 Shady Grove Road in Gaithersburg for the report of a bank robbery.  Investigation revealed that the first suspect (wearing a white shirt in the surveillance photographs) entered the bank, approached the teller, and passed a note demanding money.  The suspect received an undisclosed amount of cash and exited the bank.  As the first suspect was leaving the bank, the second suspect (wearing a red shirt in the photos) entered the bank, approached the teller, and passed a different note demanding money.  He received an undisclosed amount of cash and then exited the bank.

The first suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5'09" to 6'00" tall, and between 35 and 45 years of age.  He was wearing a white, long-sleeved shirt and white baseball hat.  The second suspect is described as a black male, 5’10? to 6'00? tall, and between 35 and 45 years of age.  He was wearing a long-sleeved red shirt, a black tie, dark rimmed glasses, and a dark colored fedora hat.  It appears that the second suspect wore the same clothing today that he wore in the August 16 bank robbery.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about this robbery or the suspects involved to contact the Robbery Section at 240-773-5100.  Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or leave a Crime Solvers tip here.  Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest and/or indictment for this felony crime.   In addition to the available Crime Solvers reward, PNC Bank is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the second suspect for the August 16 robbery.
