Update: Arrest Warrant Obtained for Suspect in Chevy Chase Carjacking

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police - Major Crimes Division are continuing to investigate a carjacking that occurred in Chevy Chase on March 13.

On March 15, at approximately 3:05 a.m., Montgomery County detectives were notified that US Park Police officers had been involved in a pursuit involving the stolen vehicle and a shooting involving the five occupants of the vehicle near the intersection of New York Avenue and Bladensburg Road in Northeast, D.C.  Montgomery County detectives responded to Washington, D.C. and determined that the vehicle involved in the incident with US Park Police was the same vehicle that was carjacked on March 13 in Chevy Chase.

Further investigation revealed that one of the occupants of the vehicle was the suspect responsible for the carjacking on March 13.  The suspect has been identified as David Joel Sutton, age 18, of the 1700 block of Montana Avenue in Northeast, Washington, D.C.  Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Sutton charging him with armed carjacking, carjacking, first degree assault, armed robbery, the use of a firearm in the commission of a violent felony, and the unlawful taking of a motor vehicle.

Sutton is currently in the custody of the U.S. Park Police pending criminal charges in Washington, D.C.  A photo of Sutton is not available at this time.

Investigation into the other occupants of the vehicle in connection with Montgomery County carjacking continues.
