Update: Second Sexual Assault Reported at Wheaton Metro garage

For Immediate Release: Thursday, December 11, 2014

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department-Special Victims Investigations Division are investigating a sexual assault that occurred at the Wheaton Metro parking garage last night. Detectives believe that the same suspect attempted to commit a sexual assault at that same location on the evening of December 8.

Last night at approximately 11:00 p.m., the 37-year-old female victim was walking on the second level of the Wheaton Metro parking garage (located at 11010 Veirs Mill Road) when she was approached by the suspect. He displayed a gun and demanded that she perform a sexual act near the pedestrian bridge. This pedestrian bridge crosses over Veirs Mill Road. The sexual act was interrupted when the suspect heard someone walking up the garage stairs.

At approximately 9:00 p.m. on December 8, the 33-year-old female victim was opening her vehicle door on the second level of the Wheaton Metro parking garage when she was approached by the suspect who was holding a gun to his side. The suspect demanded that the victim follow him to the area of the pedestrian bridge and perform a sexual act. When the victim refused to comply with the suspect’s demands, he fled from the scene. The victim exited the parking garage in her vehicle and called police.

The suspect is described as a light-complected black male or dark- complected Hispanic male, possibly in his teens or early 20s. Detectives are working with the sexual assault victims to create a composite of the suspect. The composite will be released to the public as soon as it is available.

Detectives are also investigating a December 2 report of a suspect who displayed a handgun on the third level of the Westfield Wheaton mall parking garage. The female victim in this December 2 incident reported that at approximately 9:00 p.m., the suspect was standing near the stairwell and was holding a gun while talking on his cell phone. When the victim passed by the suspect, he became startled and concealed the gun. He then apologized to the victim for “scaring her.” At this time, detectives do not know if this incident is related to the two sexual assaults.

Special Victims Investigations Division detectives are coordinating with officers from the Metro Transit Police Department during this investigation. Anyone with information about the suspect or this incident is asked to call the Special Victims Investigations Division at: 240-773-5050.
