Detectives Investigate Bethesda Fatal Pedestrian Collision

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department-Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred this evening in Bethesda.

At approximately 6:57 p.m., officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of River Road and Springfield Drive for the report of a collision involving a pedestrian.

Preliminary investigation has indicated that the pedestrian, identified as Margaret McDowell Wydro, age 95, of the 6000 block Springfield Drive in Bethesda, was crossing River Road from south to north at Springfield Drive (toward the Kenwood Club) in the area of the marked crosswalk.  A 2007 BMW 335i  was traveling east on River Road (toward Washington, D.C.) and struck Wydro.  Wydro succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

The driver of the BMW is identified as Kenneth Samuel Bravman, age 30, of the 4100 block of Albermarle Street NW in Washington, D.C.

Detectives continue to investigate what the traffic signal and pedestrian crossing signal showed at the time of the collision.
