Takoma Park Fatal Collision Investigated

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department-Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a single-vehicle fatal collision that occurred in Takoma Park.

On Thursday, October 22 at approximately 7:27 p.m., officers from the Takoma Park Police Department and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to 7810 Carroll Avenue for the report of a collision.  Preliminary investigation has indicated that a tan, 2000, Toyota Corolla was traveling north on Carroll Avenue.  For reasons still under investigation, the car left the right side of the roadway and struck a stone wall and embankment in front of a residence.

The driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene.  He has been identified as Yoftahea Afework Melese, 20 years old, of the 7700 block of Maple Avenue in Takoma Park.

The front seat passenger, identified as a 16-year-old female, was transported to Suburban Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  The rear seat passenger, identified as 16-year-old male, was transported to Washington Hospital Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
