Detectives from the Montgomery County Police - Major Crimes Division have arrested
Maurice Leonard Brown, age 46, of the 2600 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue SE, Washington, D.C., for the
September 17 armed robbery of the Safeway store located at 5200 Randolph Road in Rockville.
NOTE: This armed robbery was solved with the assistance of a
Crime Solvers of Montgomery County tip. The tipster who called Crime Solvers and provided information about this case is eligible for a reward and is asked to contact Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) and provide his/her tip number.
On September 17 at approximately 10:00 p.m., 2nd District officers responded to the Safeway store for the report of an armed robbery. The investigation revealed that the suspect, now identified as Brown, stole property from the store and threatened the manager with a weapon after the manager attempted to stop him. He then fled on foot toward the area of Parklawn Drive.
On September 24, detectives released
surveillance video of the suspect being confronted by the manager and photographs of Brown and asked for the public’s help in identifying him. On September 30, detectives received an anonymous Crime Solvers tip and used information in that tip to identify Brown as the suspect. Investigators obtained a warrant for his arrest on October 3.
On October 20, Brown was arrested in Washington, D.C. on the strength of the Montgomery County arrest warrant. Brown was transported to the Central Processing Unit and was charged with one count of armed robbery and one count of first-degree assault. Brown is currently being held on a $35,000 bond.
