Update: Suspect Charged in Aspen Hill Homicide

For Immediate Release: Friday, December 11, 2015

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department - Major Crimes Division continue to investigate the homicide of a 20-year-old male that occurred yesterday, December 9, in the parking lot of the Sunoco gas station located at 14031 Georgia Avenue in Aspen Hill. The homicide victim is now being identified as Jose Santos Fuentes of Georgia Avenue in Aspen Hill.

Today, detectives have charged 17-year-old Elmer A. Galindo, of Rockville, as an adult for the homicide of Fuentes.

On December 9 at approximately 8:24 p.m., the Emergency Communications Center (9-1-1) received a call for an assault that just occurred in the parking lot of the Sunoco gas station located at 14031 Georgia Avenue. Responding officers located two Hispanic male victims in the parking lot, one of whom was suffering from life-threatening injuries. Both victims were transported to an area hospital where Fuentes succumbed to his injuries. The second victim remains in serious condition at an area hospital.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Galindo and the two victims argued about a prior drug transaction that occurred earlier on December 9. The argument escalated into an assault with Galindo stabbing both victims multiple times. After the stabbing, Galindo fled from the area on foot.

An officer observed Galindo fleeing the area and stopped him in the 14000 block of Grand Pre Road. The officer noticed blood on Galindo’s pants and found Galindo to be in possession of a knife.

Galindo was arrested and transported to the Central Processing Unit and charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of attempted first-degree murder, one count of armed robbery, and one count of robbery. Galindo is being held without bond.

This investigation is continuing and detectives urge anyone who may have information regarding additional suspects in this homicide to contact the Major Crimes Division at 240.773.5070. For those who wish to remain anonymous, Crime Solvers of Montgomery County is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for any information that leads to the arrest of the suspect(s).
