Police Investigate Fatal ATV Collision

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision involving an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) that occurred yesterday afternoon.

On February 29 at approximately 3:04 p.m., 1st District officers and Fire & Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Whites Ferry Road and Sugarland Road in the Sugarland area for the report of a collision.

Preliminary investigation indicated that a 2002 Lexus IS300 was traveling eastbound on Whites Ferry Road. A 2003 Honda Rincon four wheeler ATV was traveling northbound on Sugarland Road when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle and the ATV collided.

The operator of the ATV was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries yesterday evening. Investigators do not believe that he was wearing a helmet. The driver of the Lexus was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The ATV operator is identified as Mark Douglas Hutchinson, age 26, of the 16900 block of White Ground Road in Boyds. The driver of the Lexus is identified as Mary Jane Elizabeth Chinchilla, age 19, of the 19000 block of Highstream Drive in Germantown.

The circumstances surrounding this collision remain under investigation. Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed this fatal collision to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773- 6620. Callers may remain anonymous.
