Detectives from the Special Victims Investigations Division have arrested and charged
Seydou Badiaka, age 21, of Sligo Avenue in Silver Spring, with first-degree rape, first-degree assault, and armed robbery
of a 23-year-old female.
On April 6 at approximately 2:23 p.m., the Emergency Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call from the victim, who was at the Sheraton Hotel located at 8777 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring.
Investigators responded to the Sheraton and determined that the victim met Badiaka on a website and arranged to meet him at the hotel in Silver Spring on April 6. When Badiaka arrived at the victim's room and the victim opened the door, Badiaka produced a steak knife. Badiaka held the knife to the victim's throat and demanded money. After receiving the victim's money, Badiaka sexually assaulted the victim. He then fled from the hotel room.
Badiaka was identified as the suspect via cellular phone records.
On Tuesday, April 19, Badiaka was arrested by detectives on the strength of an arrest warrant
at his residence. He has been charged with first-degree rape, first-degree assault, and armed robbery. He was transported to the Central Processing Unit and is being held without bond.
