Detectives Investigate Fatal Collision in Kensington

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department - Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision that occurred early this morning in Kensington.

At approximately 4:54 a.m., 2nd District officers and Fire & Rescue personnel responded to the area of Cedar Lane and Everett Street for the report of a collision.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2011 Honda Civic was traveling eastbound on Cedar Lane when for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle crossed the centerline.  The Civic collided with a 2004 Honda Pilot that was traveling westbound on Cedar Lane.

The driver of the Civic, identified as Marcial Matthew Saenz, age 35, of the 5200 block of Pooks Hill Road in Bethesda, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The driver of the Pilot, identified as Sara Nohemy Mejia Montoya, age 28, of the 11900 block of Andrew Street in Silver Spring, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives are investigating alcohol use by Saenz as a possible factor in this collision.
