Detectives Investigate Fatal Bicycle Collision

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department - Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision involving a bicyclist that occurred today on Veirs Mill Road at Turkey Branch Parkway.

At approximately 1:21 p.m., 4th District officers and Fire & Rescue personnel responded to Veirs Mill Road at Turkey Branch Parkway for the report of a collision. Preliminary investigation has indicated that a bicyclist was attempting to cross Veirs Mill Road at Turkey Branch Parkway in a northerly direction in the area of the marked crosswalk. A 2003 Honda Accord that was traveling eastbound on Veirs Mill Road collided with the bicycle.

The bicyclist was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The bicyclist is identified as Oscar Mauricio Gutierrez Osorio, age 31, of the 12800 block of Teaberry Road in Silver Spring.

The driver of the Honda was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He is identified as Williams Alfo Cordova Siguenza, age 42, of the 13000 block of Carney Street in Silver Spring.
