Detectives Investigate Fatal Collision in Burtonsville

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision that occurred this afternoon in Burtonsville.

At approximately 4:03 p.m., 3rd District officers and Fire & Rescue personnel responded to the area of Sandy Spring Road and Old Columbia Pike for the report of a collision.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1996 Saturn SL was traveling eastbound on Sandy Spring Road when for reasons still under investigation, the Saturn crossed into the westbound traffic lanes of Sandy Spring Road and collided with a 2006 Mercedes E-350.

The driver of the Saturn is being identified as Young So Park, age 85, of the 8200 block of Whitebark Lane in Severn.  Park was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The driver of the Mercedes is being identified as Salamatu Kuyateh, age 39, of the 3500 block of Pear Tree Court in Silver Spring.  She was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
