Update: Suspect Charged with Stabbing and Attempt Murder of Pregnant Woman

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police - Special Victims Investigations Division continue to investigate the stabbing of a 19-year-old pregnant female that was reported at approximately 3:19 p.m. on August 31, to the rear of 3015 Upton Drive in Kensington.

Dakota Brothers, 18 years old, of the 13400 block of Lydia Street in Aspen Hill, has been charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder and one count of first-degree assault.  He is being held without bond.  Brothers is scheduled for bond review today at 1:00 p.m. in Rockville District Court.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the 19-year-old female victim, who was several months pregnant, had agreed to meet Brothers who is known to be in a relationship with her.  Police cannot confirm if Brothers is the father of her baby. The details leading up to the victim being stabbed multiple times by Brothers remain under investigation.

The victim was conscious and stabilized by Fire and Rescue personnel at the scene.  She was able to provide Brothers' identity and description to investigators.  She was transported in serious condition to an area trauma center for treatment, where she remains in critical condition.

Brothers, who had fled from the scene, was observed by plainclothes 4th District officers near his Lydia Street residence in Aspen Hill.  As officers approached Brothers, he attempted to flee.  After a brief struggle, he was taken into custody at approximately 4 p.m. near Palmira Lane and Dauphine Street.
