Detectives Investigate Partnership Road Fatal Collision

Update: 9/3/2016: The driver is being identified as Leland Thomas, age 61, of Annandale, Virginia. He was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a single-vehicle, single-occupant fatal collision that occurred this evening.

At approximately 7:38 p.m., 1st District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the area of 16001 Partnership Road for the report of a collision.

Preliminary investigation has indicated that the driver of a vehicle was traveling south on Partnership Road.  For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway in the area of 16001 Partnership Road and struck a tree.  The adult male driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.  His identity and the description of the vehicle will be released once his family members are notified.
