Update: Suspect Arrested for Wheaton CVS Pharmacy Robbery

For Immediate Release: Monday, October 31, 2016

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Major Crimes Division have charged Derrick Austin Bacon, age 41, of the 3400 block of Castleleigh Road in Beltsville for the July 24 robbery of the CVS Pharmacy located at 12209 Veirs Mill Road in Wheaton.

On July 24 at approximately 9:59 p.m., the suspect, now identified as Bacon, entered the CVS Pharmacy carrying a duffle bag and went to where the store’s hair care products were located.  A CVS Pharmacy employee witnessed Bacon taking hair coloring and shampoo products and put them inside his duffel bag.  When the employee attempted to stop Bacon from leaving the store with the stolen merchandise, Bacon threatened the employee with bodily harm.  Bacon was last seen fleeing on foot on Veirs Mill Road.

On September 8, detectives released surveillance video of the suspect to the media and public and asked for help in identifying him.  A MCP 3rd District officer recognized Bacon and identified him as the suspect in the video.  Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Bacon and arrested him at his home on October 27.

Bacon was transported to the Central Processing Unit where he was charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault, and theft.  Bacon was released after posting a $5,000 bond.
