Detectives Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Collision in Briggs Chaney Area

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision involving a motorcycle that occurred this evening.

On Tuesday, November 15 at approximately 5:59 p.m., 3rd District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the area of Old Columbia Pike and Briggs Chaney Road for the report of a serious collision involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a green, 2011 Toyota Camry was making a left turn from northbound Old Columbia Pike onto westbound Briggs Chaney Road and a 2009 Suzuki motorcycle was traveling southbound on Old Columbia Pike approaching Briggs Chaney Road.  For reasons still under investigation, the Suzuki motorcycle and the Camry collided in the intersection.

The operator of the motorcycle is being identified as Addisu Mesfin, age 21, of the 4200 block of Woottens Lane in Burtonsville.  Mesfin succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the Camry is being identified as Nancy Cermak, age 64, of the 1700 block of Briggs Chaney Road in Silver Spring.  Cermak was not injured in the collision.
