December 9 Collision in Chevy Chase Area Now Fatal

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a now-fatal collision that occurred on December 9 in Chevy Chase.

On Friday, December 9 at approximately 2:21 p.m., 2nd District officers responded to the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Somerset Terrace for the report of a collision.  The preliminary investigation by 2nd District officers revealed that a 2002 Toyota Camry and a 2017 Toyota RAV4 were both traveling southbound on Wisconsin Avenue at Somerset Terrace, when the Camry rear-ended the RAV4.  Both cars were driveable.

The driver of the Camry, identified as Amy Chaung Lee, age 90, of the 8400 block of Whitman Drive in Bethesda was driven home by a relative after the collision.  That same day, she began to exhibit signs of a head injury and was taken to a local hospital.  Lee succumbed to her injuries at the hospital on December 14.

The driver of the RAV4, identified as Carol Smith, age 51, of the 20100 block of Rothbury Lane in Gaithersburg, was not injured in the collision.
