Detectives Investigate Fatal Collision in White Oak

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision that occurred this morning in White Oak.

On Tuesday, December 27 at approximately 11:21 a.m., 3rd District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Columbia Pike (Route 29) and Stewart Lane for the report of a serious collision that had just occurred.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2016 Honda Fit was making a left turn from southbound Columbia Pike onto eastbound Stewart Lane and a 2014 Ford E-Series van was traveling northbound on Columbia Pike approaching Stewart Lane.  The Ford van and the Honda collided in the intersection.    After the initial collision, the Ford van then struck a 2012 Toyota Camry which was stopped for the red traffic signal on westbound Stewart Lane at Columbia Pike.

The driver of the Honda, identified as Mauro Juan Loli, age 83, of Ivywood Lane in Colesville, was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Ford E-Series van, identified as Rohan Wayne Bryan, age 46, of Apple Road in Northeast, Washington, D.C., was not injured in the collision.

The driver of the Toyota, identified as Yohnnes Birru Ayele, age 42, of Old Columbia Pike in Silver Spring, was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
