Detectives Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Collision in Hillandale

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department - Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision that occurred this evening.

On Wednesday, February 1 at approximately 5:06 p.m., 3rd District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the parking lot of Cresthaven Elementary School located at 1234 Cresthaven Drive for the report of a collision involving a pedestrian who was using a walker.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a waste disposal truck was attempting to back up in the parking lot of the school when the adult male victim, identified as Collins Ellison, age 66, from the 1200 block of Cresthaven Drive in Hillandale, and who was using a walker, was struck by the truck.  Ellison succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the waste disposal truck, identified as Vincent Carruth, age 48, of the 7100 block of Smooth Path in Columbia, remained at the scene and was not injured in the collision.
