Detectives Investigate Single-Vehicle Fatal Collision in Olney

Update: February 16, 2017 - The driver is being identified as John Ernest Cator 3rd, age 58, of Maple Ridge Court in Rockville.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department - Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a single-vehicle fatal collision that occurred this afternoon in Olney.

Today at approximately 3:57 p.m., 4th District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to eastbound Olney Laytonsville Road (Route 108) and Olney Mill Road for the report of a single-vehicle collision.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a white 2007 Honda Accord was traveling east on Route 108.  For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway in the area of Olney Mill Road and struck a traffic signal control box.  The adult male driver (and sole occupant of the vehicle) was transported to a local hospital and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The driver's identity will be released once his family is notified.
