Montgomery County Public School Bus Driver Charged with Multiple Sex Offenses

For Immediate Release: Friday, March 3, 2017

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department - Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) have arrested and charged Salvador Rodriguez, age 59, of the 11600 block of Connecticut Avenue in North Kensington, for having inappropriate contact with two 11-year-old female students.  Rodriguez was employed as a Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) bus driver and the inappropriate contact occurred on MCPS buses during Rodriguez’s bus routes.  The Montgomery County Public Schools system placed Rodriguez on administrative leave as soon as they learned of the allegations in February 2017.

On February 9, SVID detectives began an investigation regarding sexual offenses that were committed by Rodriguez during the current school year involving the juvenile victims.  Investigators determined that Rodriguez was a bus driver for bus routes that included Rockview Elementary School, Newport Mill Middle School, and Albert Einstein High School.   Through the course of the investigation, it was learned that on three separate occasions, Rodriguez had inappropriate sexual contact with one victim while she was a passenger on the school bus. Detectives further determined that on a separate occasion, Rodriguez had inappropriate sexual contact with the second victim while she was a passenger on the school bus.

This morning (March 3), detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Rodriguez charging him with two counts of sexual abuse of a minor, two counts of third-degree sex offense, and two counts of fourth-degree sex offense by a person in a position of authority.

Rodriguez was arrested this morning when arrived for a scheduled appointment with SVID detectives at the SVID offices.

During a police interview, Rodriguez admitted to having inappropriate contact with the victims.

Detectives are requesting that parents of students who rode a school bus driven by Rodriguez to talk to their children about their interactions with him and contact SVID detectives at 240-773-5400 if they believe their child was victimized.

Bond information for Rodriguez is not available at this time.
