Detectives Investigate Fatal Collision in Hyattstown

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision that occurred this morning in Hyattstown.

On Friday, March 3 at approximately 9:29 a.m., 5th District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Old Hundred Road (Route 109) and the on-ramp for northbound I-270 for the report of a serious collision that had just occurred.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a yellow 2013 Jeep Wrangler was traveling southbound on Old Hundred Road approaching the on-ramp for northbound Interstate 270.  A 2012 Silver Volkswagen Passat was making a left turn from northbound Old Hundred Road onto the on-ramp for northbound I-270. The Volkswagen and the Jeep collided in the intersection.

The front seat passenger in the Volkswagen, identified as Mary Ann Oden, age 69, of Old Hundred Road in Dickerson, was transported to an area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the Volkswagen, identified as Cynthia Leigh Oden, age 22, of Brink Road in Germantown, was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Jeep, identified as Russell Paul Hutchinson, age 57, of Edgewood Road in New Market, was not injured in the collision.
