Detectives Investigate Fatal Collision at Georgia Avenue and Regina Drive

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision that occurred this morning in the 13000 block of Georgia Avenue.

On Friday, May 5 at approximately 8:15 a.m., 4th District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Georgia Avenue at Regina Drive for the report of a serious collision that had just occurred.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2005 Honda Accord was traveling northbound on Georgia Avenue approaching Regina Drive.  At the same time, a 2009 Honda Accord was attempting to make a left turn from westbound Regina Drive onto southbound Georgia Avenue.   For reasons still under investigation, the two vehicles collided in the intersection.  As a result of the collision between the two Honda Accords, a Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) bus (which was not carrying any students) that was traveling southbound on Georgia Avenue near Regina Drive was also struck by the 2009 Honda Accord.

The driver of the 2005 Honda Accord is being identified as Ablavi Julienne Hobuame, age 25, of the 2200 block of Greenery Lane in Silver Spring.  She was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the 2009 Honda Accord is being identified as Stavroula Doulaveris, age 81, of the 13400 block of Norden Drive in Silver Spring.  She was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.  Doulaveris succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

The driver of the MCPS bus is being identified as Hyeong Seok Kang, age 48, of the 19600 block of Gassaway Lane in Germantown.  He was not injured in the collision.
