Serious Bethesda Collision Now Fatal

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a now-fatal collision that occurred on July 19 in North Bethesda.  A 92-year-old driver injured in the July 19 collision succumbed to his injuries on July 28.

On Wednesday, July 19 at approximately 11:11 a.m., 2nd District officers responded to the area of Rockledge Drive and Democracy Boulevard for the report of a collision involving three vehicles.  The preliminary investigation by 2nd District officers revealed that a 1997 Chrysler Concord had exited a parking lot located at 6410 Rockledge Drive and was attempting to turn southbound onto Rockledge Drive toward Democracy Boulevard.  For reasons still under investigation, the Chrysler struck and crossed over the concrete median and collided with a 2017 BMW 430i that was traveling northbound on Rockledge Drive.  After being struck by the Chrysler, the BMW then struck a 2001 Nissan Maxima which was parked and unoccupied on Rockledge Drive.

The driver of the Chrysler, identified as Eugene Levine, age 92, of the 8100 block of Inverness Ridge Road in Potomac was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.  Levine succumbed to his injuries at the hospital on July 28.

The driver of the BMW, identified as Steven Marc Collen, age 55, of the 6200 block of Lilac Bush Lane in Clarksburg, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  Collen has since been released from the hospital.
