  • Karon Sayles, age 25, of the 2500 block of Darel Drive in Suitland.  He was arrested on August 9 and is being held without bond.
On Wednesday, August 2 at approximately 8:12 a.m., 3rd District officers responded to the 8800 block of Manchester Road for the report of a home invasion robbery.  An adult female victim stated to officers that suspects entered the home on the night of August 1, handcuffed the residents, and held them hostage overnight before fleeing from the apartment early that morning.

Major Crimes detectives have determined that on August 1 at approximately 9:00 p.m., the two adult residents who were in the apartment heard someone knocking at the front door.  One of the residents answered the door and was met with five males.  One of the males stated that the group was there to do some work in the apartment.  The resident let the group in to the apartment and the males began to walk around as if they were conducting an inspection.  An adult female and a juvenile resident arrived at the apartment during this time.  The residents began to question the group's intentions and at that time, the group began to assault the adult residents; one of the suspects displayed a knife.  The adult residents were handcuffed and at least one of the victims was blindfolded.  At approximately midnight, an additional adult female victim arrived at the home and fell victim to the group's actions.  One of the suspects inappropriately touched one of the female victims as she was handcuffed on the floor of the apartment.

During the home invasion, one suspect told one of the female victims that he knew she worked at a check-cashing business on Piney Branch Road and he demanded the keys and the business alarm code.  The victim, who was an employee of the business, recognized the suspect as a customer she had assisted there in the past.  The suspects drove the resident in her own vehicle to the check-cashing place twice during the night in an attempt to get access to the business; the suspects were unsuccessful in gaining entry.

At approximately 8:00 on the morning of August 2, one suspect began to assault an adult male victim with a knife.  During the assault, the victim disarmed the suspect which caused the remaining suspects in the home to flee from the house.  The suspects then ran from the apartment and fled in one of the victims' vehicles.  The victims were then able to contact 9-1-1.  The suspects, in addition to stealing a vehicle, also stole cash and property.

Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the home and transported an adult male victim to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries that he received during the home invasion robbery and assault.

During the investigation, robbery detectives developed Ajeo, Alaameri, Johnson, Oxely, and Sayles as suspects.  The five suspects were arrested on the strength of Montgomery County arrest warrants.  Criminal charges placed against the suspects in this case include home invasion, armed robbery, kidnapping, vehicle theft, and false imprisonment.

Anyone with information about this home invasion robbery is asked to call the Major Crimes Division; Robbery Section at 240-773-5100.

Note to media: Bobby Johnson will have bond review on Monday, August 14 at 1:00 pm in Rockville District Court.
