Detectives Investigate Fatal Collision on Rockville Pike

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision involving a Montgomery County Ride On Bus and a sedan that occurred on Saturday, September 9.

On September 9 at approximately 8:30 p.m., 1st District officers and Fire & Rescue personnel responded to the area of Rockville PIke (Maryland Route 355) at Halpine Road for the report of a collision.

Preliminary investigation by detectives has determined that a Ride On bus was stopped for a red traffic signal on northbound Rockville Pike at Halpine Road.  For reasons still under investigation, a 1995 Honda Accord, also traveling northbound Rockville Pike, rear-ended the bus.

The driver of the Accord was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

There were three passengers on the bus at the time of the collision; the passengers and bus operator were uninjured.

The names of the drivers will be released once family notifications are complete.
