Gaithersburg Fatal Pedestrian Collision Investigated

Detectives with the Montgomery County Police Department - Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred in Gaithersburg last night.

On Tuesday, September 26 at approximately 7:56 p.m., 6th District units, Gaithersburg police, and Fire and Rescue personnel responded for a collision involving a pedestrian on Muddy Branch Road and Harmony Hall Road.  First responders located a 76-year-old female with life-threatening injuries.  She was transported to Suburban Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that Svetlan Bychkova, of the 17000 block of King James Way in Gaithersburg, was walking west across the southbound lanes of Muddy Branch Road.  During this action, Bychkova was struck by a black 2006 Lexus ES 330, operated by Sara Eugenia Rivera, traveling south on Muddy Branch Road.  Rivera, 27 years old, of the 800 block of West Side Drive in Gaithersburg, remained on the scene and provided information to investigators.

This collision remains under investigation.  Investigators are urging anyone who witnessed this collision to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240.773.6620.
