Substitute High School Teacher Charged with Sex Abuse of Juvenile Student

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department –  Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) have arrested and charged Cory Boatman, age 27, of the 10900 block of Amherst Avenue in Wheaton, with sexual abuse for his involvement in a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old Montgomery Blair High School female student.  At the time of these offenses, Boatman was employed as a substitute teacher for Montgomery County Public Schools and was also the assistant football coach at Montgomery Blair High School located at 51 University Boulevard East in Silver Spring.

On September 22, detectives began investigating the report that Boatman was engaging in a sexual relationship with the victim.  The victim stated to investigators that she knew Boatman from his employment at Montgomery Blair High school.  The victim further stated that in early August, Boatman began sending her suggestive text messages.  Later in August, Boatman picked the victim up at her residence and then drove her to his address where they engaged in sexual intercourse.

This morning (October 6), detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Boatman, charging him with sexual abuse of a minor.  Boatman turned himself into detectives and was transported to the Central Processing Unit. Bond information for Boatman is not yet available.

Detectives are requesting that parents of students who may have had contact with Boatman talk to their children about their interactions with him and contact SVID detectives at 240-773-5400 if they believe their child was victimized.
