Detectives Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Collision in Takoma Park

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian that occurred last night in Takoma Park.

On Wednesday, November 1 at approximately 7:49 p.m., Takoma Park Police officers and Fire and Rescue personnel from Prince George's County responded to New Hampshire Avenue at Larch Avenue for the report of a collision.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2004 Cadillac Escalade EXT, driven by Starlington Windel Simms, age 72, of Lockney Avenue in Takoma Park, was traveling south on New Hampshire Avenue (Maryland Route 650).  At the intersection of southbound New Hampshire Avenue and Larch Avenue, the Cadillac struck a pedestrian who was traveling eastbound Larch Avenue across the intersection.

The pedestrian, 79-year-old James Sexton Byrne of Lockney Avenue in Takoma Park, was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
