Detectives Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Collision in White Oak

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian that occurred last night in White Oak.

On Thursday, November 9 at approximately 6:40 p.m., 3rd District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to Columbia Pike (Route 29) at Hillwood Drive for the report of a pedestrian involved-collision.  First responders located the adult female victim deceased in the roadway of Columbia Pike.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a white, 2010 Ford E250 van driven by Carter L. Cockrell, age 75, of the 4600 block of 9th Street in Washington, D.C., was traveling south on Columbia Pike in the area of Hillwood Drive.  For reasons still under investigation, the Ford van collided with the victim.  Cockrell and the van remained at the scene.  Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision, to include the victim’s direction of travel and whether she may have been struck by an additional vehicle(s).

The identity of the victim will be released once family notifications have been made.
