Police Investigate Single Vehicle, Double Fatal Collision

For Immediate Release: Sunday, February 4, 2018

Detectives with the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) - Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision involving two deaths.

On Sunday, February 4 at approximately 2:30 a.m., 3rd District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded for the report of a collision on University Boulevard West at Royalton Road near the Four Corners area of Silver Spring.  First responders located a black 2015 Lexus RX 350 SUV that had struck a utility pole.  The vehicle's 24-year-old driver and the 28-year-old passenger, both males, had succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the SUV was traveling east on University Boulevard approaching Royalton Road and left the roadway, striking a utility pole.  Investigators believe that the vehicle's speed could have contributed to the collision.

The driver is being identified as Leonel Osvaldo Gonzalez of the 4200 block of Weller Road in Silver Spring.  The passenger is being identified as Hodimyr Gonzalez of the 12300 block of Treetop Lane in Silver Spring.

This remains an ongoing investigation.  Anyone with information regarding this collision is urged to contact CRU investigators at 240.773.6620.
