Update: Suspect Arrested for Germantown Homicide

For Immediate Release: Friday, April 13, 2018

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Major Crimes Division have arrested Quinnton Eric Brown, age 30, of the 8900 block of Footed Ridge in Columbia, Maryland, for the homicide of 30-year-old Maurice Cortez Mercer of Cross Ridge Way in Germantown.

On January 3 at approximately 3:51 p.m., 5th District officers responded to a home in the 12500 block of Cross Ridge Way for the report of a suspicious situation.  First responders located Mercer deceased in his residence from an apparent gunshot wound.  The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled Mercer’s death as a homicide by gunshot wound.

During the initial investigation, detectives collected forensic evidence that linked Brown to the scene. Further interviews by detectives revealed that Brown had visited Mercer’s residence several days prior to the murder and it appeared that Mercer was concerned and fearful after the visit.

On April 10, detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Brown with first-degree murder.   On April 12, Brown was arrested on the strength of the warrant.  He is currently being held without bond.

Thank you to special agents from the ATF Baltimore Field Division’s Hyattsville I Field Office who assisted officers with forensic testing of evidence (a McDonald’s bag) at the ATF National Laboratory Center in Beltsville.
