Fairland Fatal Collision Investigated

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision that occurred in Fairland this morning.

On Sunday, May 6 at approximately 3:03 a.m., 3rd District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to Columbia Pike (Route 29) at Fairland Road for the report of a serious collision.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a black 2006 Honda Pilot and a silver 2014 Honda Pilot had been involved in a minor collision and had stopped in a southbound lane of Columbia Pike at Fairland Drive.  After the collision, the driver and a front seat passenger of the black Pilot exited their vehicle and were standing near their car.  The investigation further revealed that a silver 2006 BMW 321i was traveling southbound on Columbia Pike at Fairland Road when for reasons still under investigation, it struck the black Honda Pilot.  The driver and the passenger of the black pilot who had been standing outside of their vehicle were also struck by the BMW.

The operator of the black Honda Pilot is being identified as My Huong T. Nguyen, age 45, of the 7900 block of Greenbury Drive in Greenbelt.  Nguyen succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

The adult male passenger who was also struck while standing outside of the black Pilot was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  An adult female rear-seat passenger in the black Pilot was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The operator of the BMW 325i is being identified as Ivan William Kadiam, age 29, of the 8400 block of 14th Avenue in Hyattsville.  Kadiam was not injured in the collision.  Responding officers arrested Kadiam at the scene for suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI).

An adult male front-seat passenger in the BMW was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The adult female driver of the silver Honda Pilot and an adult female passenger were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
